James,
My engine is making a ticking noise. What could be making it do this?
John

John,
It could just mean your oil is dirty or low. Or it could mean something more sinister. If the oil is not dirty or low may I suggest you change your oil to 0w30 Mobil One oil.
What may be happening is sludge has built up in your lifters from not changing your oil often enough. The 0w30 oil will be able to “pump” up the lifters and “possibly” clean them to work properly. This procedure is recommended to be the first thing you do BEFORE you pull the engine apart.

Best wishes and thanks for the question.

James Morris
