I have a 2001 Olds Alero. My temp gauge seems to be stuck at cold. Is this the thermostat? If so, where is it located?
I am assuming your Alero is a 4 cylinder engine.
If it is a 4 cylinder I would make sure that it is NOT getting hot enough, FIRST before you proceed.
Does your heater work well?
If it does, then the thermostat MAY not be your problem. I then would suspect a gauge problem or sending unit problem.
Now to the question where is the thermostat located? It is underneath the car coming off the water pump (if it is the 4 cylinder engine.)
I don't suggest you attempt this repair due to the location of the thermostat. You would have to do this repair on your back and coolant would be running down your arm and dripping into your face. Antifreeze is toxic and nasty to wear and fatal to drink.
