I have had the fuel pump changed and all the filter along with plug wires and plugs. I have heard that this is a "pattern failure" What is the cure?

The pattern failure you are talking about is a faulty distributor! This is a common problem, but may not be YOUR problem. To verify this is your problem when it dies see if you have spark. This means pull the coil wire and crank the car and see if "spark" is produced. If not then this may be your problem. If you don't have "spark" pour cold water on the distributor base (the metal part) and cool it down. After you do this and it starts you may safely say your distributor is faulty. I hope this helps point you in the right direction on this "pattern failure"
