I have a 1997 Nissan Sentra. Today I tried to start the car but I could not turn the key. It seemed that the switch was locked or "frozen". I tried another key and still could not turn the key either. Do you have any idea what might be causing the problem?
In most cases this means that the Key lock "tumblers" have been damaged. Try squirting “dry graphite” into the key slot and gently working it back in
forth. (Do not use a liquid lubricant such as WD 40) If this does not help, then you need to seek the professional skill of a locksmith. You can either tow the vehicle to them or remove the key cylinder from the car and take it to them. Of course if you have never done this type repair I don't recommend starting now. You will have to cut rivets out to remove the key assembly (this is not a fun job if you do not have a high speed portable grinding tool!)
