Dear Auto Advisor, I have a 2004 Dodge 4.7 L Durango with automatic transmission. My problem seems to be the oil pressure drops out to zero. I had a shop replace the oil pump and clean the sludge out of the engine. Yet it still drops oil pressure after 10 to 15 minutes of driving. The engine does not make any noise when the oil pressure drops. My question is, what could be the cause of this problem? James B. Bayou George

James, The first thing I would check is the actual oil pressure using a mechanical oil pressure gauge. I suspect all that is wrong with your car is the oil sending unit has failed. To rule out the oil sending unit causing this common problem, have it replaced and see what happens. I suspect your problem will go away once you change this sending unit with the newer updated version.
