When my gas tank is empty and I put less than 10 gallons in it, the fuel gauge reads anywhere from 3/4 to 1/2 full. That's with a 26 gallon tank! During the first 20k miles my truck showed the proper fuel levels. Ford says it is normal and nothing is wrong. What might be the culprit?
I don't think there is anything wrong with this vehicle. It is normal for most fuel gauges to be approximate when they are between 3/4 and 1/4 full. The gauges are only close when completely full or almost empty of fuel.
I bet in a few months Ford may have a reprogram for the computer if enough people complain about the reading of their fuel gauge.
For now I would just learn to keep fuel in it until you are more familiar with how it reads. Over the years I have noticed a lot of cars and trucks are this way. Even digital type fuel gauges can be off as much as 15 to 20 %.
Hope this set your mind at ease.
