My 1989 Thunderbird the wipers will not go back to their home or park position. When I cut the wipers off they stop in the “up” position. What can I do to fix this problem besides replacing the whole motor assembly?

If the windshield wipers "park" straight up, then changing the wiper motor is more than likely the repair procedure. The circuit that tells the wiper to “Park” or return the “Off” position is inside the wiper motor itself.
